Battery change in Casio SeaPathfinder SPF-70TJ

SeaPathfinder SPF-70TJ

A friend purchased the watch in Japan 13 years ago. It has a band in Titanium and has been working almost flawless since then. The only things that has been a little problematic is to keep the watch charged during the winter. I also had to turn the auto-light off during the winter. I guess that only indoor light is just barely enough to keep the watch running.

But the main advantage with this watch is that the watch is solar chargeable and don't need frequent battery changes.

But the last year it started to reset and behave irregularly.

I decided to by a new similar watch. But also started to research the watch on the Internet an found that it was possible to change the battery and that it was not uncommon and necessary for this type of watch as the battery degraded with age.

After some research i found that the battery for this watch is a CTL1616 and that they could be obtained via any major auction site. I purchased one (the newest battery is called CTL1616 F) for 200:- SEK including postage and handing from Germany.

The battery change was simple. All that was needed was to open the watch and replace the battery.
This watch is opened in a similar way as other Casio watches of the same type. I used YouTube as a reference.
Before you begin it may be worth getting hold of some watch tools and a magnifying glass. Some of the parts are small and require small instruments.

Here is a picture showing the watch just after the battery change.

There is also a small sticker/instruction inside the watch that shows you how to reset the watch after the battery change. (Not shown in picture)
